Sepia Saturday 159

I dreamed a lot about taking part in wonderful "Sepia Saturday" project where people share old family pictures and stories. I follow Alan Burnett's blog since past spring but had no chance to participate until today ("wrong" theme, lack of internet connection, pictures stored in parents' place...). I believe that I have a lot of old pictures (as well as stories), which are worth to contribute. These pictures talk to me, why should I stop them from talking to the rest of the world?

This week's theme is absolute classics - a girl by the sea in her swimming suit :))

I'm showing picture of my mom - her very first trip to the Black sea! It was in summer of 1961, which means she is five years old on the picture. They stayed in Yevpatoria, famous Crimean resort very popular in USSR (nowadays it is part of Ukraine). As I know from nan, mom demostrated brilliant swimming and diving techniques, gained in swimming pool back in Moscow. Frequently her courageous diving shocked other people on the beach - they thought this little girl might drown.

  14. Welcome to Sepia Saturday from our avocado grove in California. It used to be a long way from the Black Sea but it doesn't seem so far anymore. Your mother was a beautiful child - she looks so happy with her beach ball.

  22. Welcome! What a fabulous photo and details about your mother. I was born in 1961, so it's interesting to see something in Russia around the time when I was young too.
